Design for the weapons locker / security room in Alien Romulus.
Fede Alvarez and Naaman Marshall loved this concept art when they first saw it, it was approved on first review (a rarity on any job!)

As the brief called for a space were our protagonists grab weapons and proceed to the Hive - I thought this was the perfect opportunity to pay homage to my idol Syd Mead and replicate the weapons module he designed for Aliens (1986). I thought this also made sense, as perhaps these lockers were modulated, made off the shelf and distributed across many Weyland Yutani buildings.
-
As for the rest of the design, I went for the Aliens aesthetic - hardcore industrial materials, and aimed to make the space feel awkward and asymmetric - not pretty at all with its low ceiling height, exposed services and jittering angles. Almost as if this was a redundant space on the ship and the architects thought “hey, we could maybe throw a desk and some screens in there for the security officer”
-
The hallway was cut from the film due to budgetary reasons, and the weapons locker was moved into the Romulus Lab.
The final design in the film ended up being all white, but I really liked the dark and grimy aesthetic!
